Carol Cameron retires after years of dedication to VACo members

A lifetime of work inevitably leaves its mark. In Carol Cameron’s case – her labor has left an imprint that will last for many years to come. Carol retired on June 30 after 14 years with VACo. She started as an administrative assistant but soon was promoted into her role as Director of Member Services.

Carol thrived as the point of contact for VACo members. Her caring, organization, and work ethic proved to be a perfect match for the frenzied world of association membership. Members loved her and she admired them back. Carol brought structure to VACo membership, and her databases will continue to be used in the future.

Carol widened her responsibilities and managed the Associate Members program, sold sponsorships for events, and created logos and art for VACo’s many marketing efforts.

For years, VACo needed someone who could design. Carol taught herself Photoshop and Illustrator, and for the past decade her work has graced the pages of VACo’s newsletter, website, flyers, brochures, registration forms, just about every marketing material.

Waiting for Carol to unveil the Annual Conference logo is a tradition at VACo. Once the conference theme has been selected – Carol goes back to her lab and a few days later…an email hits inboxes with a PDF of three examples. We will all miss this tradition.

Carol has received many kudos for her work during the Annual Conference. Routinely, the Exhibit Hall is sold out. Exhibitors have a great experience and don’t hesitate to renew and return. It’s because of Carol. There’s rarely a problem she can’t fix in her Exhibit Hall.

In all, Carol worked nearly 40 years in local government.

“We wish you well in retirement, Carol,” said VACo Executive Director Dean Lynch. “Thank you for your many years of dedicated service to Virginia and her Counties. We will miss you.”
