They also provide direction to the VACo staff on policy issues arising from legislative and state agency actions. Committee members are selected from VACo’s 13 regions.
The operational and ad-hoc committees are responsible for helping direct the staff in the activities, programs and functions of VACo.
Committee members are expected to attend live and virtual committee meetings during the year and the VACo Annual Conference. VACo asks that committee members or the counties they represent assume responsibility for travel arrangements and costs associated with attending committee meetings.
Appointments are made each year by the president of VACo. If you are interested in being considered for an appointment, complete this form.

VACo Steering Committees
Agriculture and Rural Affairs: Agriculture and rural affairs activities affected by laws and regulations.
Community, Economic, and Workforce Development: Community development, economic development, workforce development, infrastructure, and growth management.
Education: PreK-12 public education issues, including funding, school construction, and local authority.
Environment, Energy, and Land Use: Environment, affordable and reliable electricity, renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and land use issues.
Finance and Elections: Appropriations, taxation, and elections.
General Government: General Government issues such as Freedom of Information, procurement, public safety, and cybersecurity.
Health and Human Resources: Social services, Children’s Services Act, behavioral health, and related issues.
Transportation: Transportation issues.
